Uncle Dan’s Michoacán to Michigan Narrative

 

 

 Valeriano Fraga’s words of gratitude spoken at his 80th birthday celebration. 

Martina (Herrejon) and Valeriano Fraga left Morelia, Michoacán Mexico with their daughter Esperanza (Frances) and son, Erasmo (John) and crossed into the United States at Nuevo Laredo/Laredo, Texas in 1919. After working their way north from the border, they were recruited in San Antonio, Texas to work in the sugar beet fields in Michigan and boarded one of seven train cars bound for Saginaw, Michigan.
